About
Meet Brandon Woolf
Brandon Woolf is Idaho’s 21st State Controller.
Raised in Preston, Brandon learned early the values of hard work, responsibility, and faith while milking cows and hauling hay on his family’s dairy farm in Whitney, Idaho. After earning an undergraduate degree in political science from Utah State University in 1997, Brandon was hired as an intern at the Idaho State Controller’s Office. He worked his way up the ranks in the office’s Division of Statewide Payroll, from training specialist to chief of staff, and simultaneously earned a Master of Business Administration from Boise State University.
Brandon was appointed as State Controller in 2012 by Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and unanimously confirmed by the State Senate. Since then, Brandon has been elected and re-elected by Idahoans three times. As the state’s chief fiscal officer, he safeguards taxpayer dollars, oversees payroll for 37,000 state employees, and leads efforts to make government more transparent, efficient, and accountable. His leadership has streamlined state technology services, modernized financial systems, and strengthened oversight of public funds.
Brandon also serves on the Idaho Board of Land Commissioners and the Board of Examiners, ensuring taxpayer dollars are managed responsibly across state government.
A committed conservative, Brandon believes in limited government, fiscal discipline, and accountability to the people. He and his wife, Janalee, are proud parents of three grown children and love spending time with their grandchild. The Woolfs are active members of The Church Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
