Seventeen years ago I started as an intern in the State Controller’s Office and with hard work and honest dealings ultimately became your State Controller. I’m committed to being fiscally responsible, making our government more transparent, and ensuring every cent of your tax dollars is accounted for in accordance with the law.
As your State Controller, I’m the chief financial officer for the State of Idaho, which means that I’m responsible for paying all of the state’s bills, processing payroll for more than 24,000 state employees, and maintaining Idaho’s centralized financial management reporting and accounting systems. I also manage the State of Idaho’s largest data center and Idaho’s official transparency website, Transparent.Idaho.gov.
To meet these statutory and constitutional duties, my office is divided into three operating divisions and one support division. All together, we employ about ninety individuals with about half of them working in our Computer Services division and the remaining split among the Accounting, Payroll and Administration divisions.
I’m running for State Controller because it’s critical that your Controller be committed to following the precise letter of the law, have experience managing complex financial systems, demonstrate a steadfast commitment to customer service and government transparency, and have proven experience managing a professional accounting, payroll and IT workforce.
I ask for your vote in the Republican primary election on May 20, 2014 because I am the most qualified candidate to do this job. Over the past sixteen years I’ve earned the respect of state agency leaders, Idaho’s elected officials in all three branches of government, and most importantly, from the citizens for whom I’ve worked.
